Why I Do It
Financial literacy is not a term I ever heard growing up. While my parents did their best to provide for our family, they lived paycheck to paycheck most of their lives. Seeing my family struggle inspired me to aim higher. But despite my best efforts, I still found myself drowning in debt.
Once I was debt-free, I realized that the methods I used could help others like me who wanted the same but didnā€™t grow up with the framework to make it happen. So I made it my mission to help as many people as possible create healthy financial habits and a better life for themselves and their families.
Our Story
For a long time we believed tithing was the whole plan. Give ten percent. Pray over the rest. Trust that it will work out.
My husband and I loved God, worked hard, and gave faithfully. We also carried $224,000 in debt. We avoided our numbers and quietly believed that wanting more meant we didn't trust Him enough.
Looking back, the gap is easy to see. We had a plan for the ten percent. We had no plan for the ninety percent that stayed in our hands after the offering plate passed.
Then we found one in the parable of the talents. Jesus told a story about servants and what they did with what the Master entrusted to them. That parable is about stewardship of everything we have been given, and it changed how we saw our money.
We started applying it. We renewed our thinking. We built a plan and worked it hard. At one point I held four jobs and went 60 days without a day off. Twenty-two months later, the debt was gone.
The payoff mattered. The bigger shift was realizing we had been managing our faith and our finances as two separate categories, when Scripture never separated them. Stewardship is worship.
This is why FSSS exists: to help you close that gap, sooner than we did.
What We Believe
There are threeĀ myths about faith and money that keep believers stuck. We're not here to add a stewardship module on top of them. We're here to replace them.
MythĀ #1:
"Give, and you don't have to do anything else but pray."
Giving is worship. It was never meant to replace planning.
Proverbs 22:7 puts it plainly: the borrower is servant to the lender. That's not a spiritual condition you're meant to quietly accept. It's a reality you're meant to steward your way out of, with a plan, not just a prayer.
Myth #2:
"Poor is humble."
Nowhere in Scripture is poverty called a virtue.
Humility and stewardship are not opposite, and an inheritance takes intention, preparation, and action, not just a humble heart.
MythĀ #3:
"God doesn't want His children to be rich."
God isn't afraid of your wealth. He's after your obedience with it.
Matthew 25:14ā€“30 makes this unmistakable. The servant who did nothing with what he was given wasn't praised for staying humble and small. He was called wicked and lazy, for burying what he should have been building with.Ā

Why We Teach This
Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, not conformed to the patterns we inherited, even the ones that sounded spiritual.
Financial freedom doesn't start with a better budget. It starts with a mindset shift, backed by a real plan. That's stewardship. That's the whole model behind everything we teach at FSSS.
Not "give more and hope." Not "stay small and call it humble." Not "avoid wealth to stay holy." Instead: steward what's already in your hands, faithfully, on purpose, one decision at a time.
What This Looks Like in Practice
Stewardship isn't a feeling, it's a series of decisions. Here's where you actually start applying it:
Renew your mind. Name the belief that's been running your financial decisions, and replace it with truth, starting with the three above.
Face your numbers. You can't steward what you won't look at. This is the honest, unglamorous first step, and it's non-negotiable.
Build a plan, not a wish. Praying for increase isn't a substitute for a budget, a payoff strategy, or a savings target.
Take one action this week. Not everything. One faithful step a transfer, a cancelled subscription, an honest conversation, a number you finally checked.
